It was in a slightly different directory for Arch (/etc/systemd/system//rvice), but knowing that the config information was stored in the systemd service helped me find it. I'm running the latest build of the plex-media-server on Arch LinuxĮdit: For anyone that might find this thread: I was able to change the user in the end after I stumbled upon this article posted on the knowledgebase. etc/default/plexmediaserver didn't exist so I tried setting it in /etc/conf.d/plexmediaserver which yielded no result Tried having PLEX run as user chris rather than plex - Not 100% sure I did this right to be honest. Symlinks - PLEX apparently doesn't like symlinks. Would simply rather not move the mount point for my 2 TB HDD PLEX does not play well with content directories being in /home/youruserhere (or in this case /home/chris/Data) My PLEX media directories are at /home/chris/Data/PLEX/Movies, ~/Data/PLEX/Music and ~/Data/PLEX/Shows dev/sdb1 (2 TB HDD) is mounted at /home/chris/Data Moving the mount point of my HDD isn't ideal for me for various reasons. Tldr: PleX won't recognize any content on my storage HDD mounted at /home/chris/Data/, but it's fully functional otherwise.

Hey, I asked the same question over on the forums but I thought I'd ask here because reddit is usually useful.
